Biographical Note

Carme Aymar is an artist who loves exploring the world and its cultures to then transform what learnt into Timeless Art Pieces.

Born in Sant Celoni (Barcelona) she showed an early passion for art and specially for paintings. She got her Bachelor in Fine Arts from La Massana School in Barcelona (1970-1975) where her tutor was the painter Ismael Balanyà, whom she has always admired both as an artist and a person.

Since 1980, when her first exhibition took place, she has contributed to a number of group shows throughout Spain as well as regularly holding one-woman exhibitions in several cities of Catalonia, on the Balearic Isles and in Geneva and Strasbourg.

An Approach to the Painting of Carme Aymar

The painting of Carme Aymar is (…) generated almost invariably by strong emotive tension, which becomes more restrained and disciplined in her mature work. Nonetheless, emotions can never be completely clear and diaphanous, and this is reflected in her oils. In her own words, the painter strives to avoid being ‘overly explicit’: rather than attempting to paint what she sees and experiences in precise detail – for example, the specific motifs of a house or a tree –, she gives pre-eminence to the sfumatto and nuances of color changes. She paints to endow the feelings of her inner self with visual form and, from this perspective, her oils are especially thought-provoking: as we contemplate her works, we are entreated to enter the realm of aesthetic dream, to complete, as far as we can, what the painting itself is neither able nor wishes to unravel.
